Body Water

Body Water: Hydration is an important physiological measure that can significantly impact overall health. This factor is a measure of the water content in various tissues, blood, bones, and other components of the body.As we know, water significantly contributes to the human body in terms of both weight and volume. Maintaining the proper amount of water in the body is essential for fluid balance and homeostasis. The average adult male is approximately 70 percent water; however, most adults fall somewhere below 65 percent.

Extracellular water is the fluid located outside the cell walls. It primarily consists of blood plasma and tissue fluid. This fluid is a solution that bathes and surrounds the tissue cells. This water stores some nutrients and also helps to remove waste from inside the cell. As a general rule, one third of TBW should be outside the cell.

Intracellular water primarily consists of water, dissolved ions, small molecules, and large water-soluble molecules such as proteins. Water is essential inside the cell to retain water-soluble nutrients such as vitamins B and C. The optimal amount of intracellular water varies according to gender and age. Generally, two-thirds of total body water (TBW) should be within the cells.
